Hamill ruled out of qualifying fight
A qualifying decision settles a place in the fight, while leaving the cause of Hamill’s condition unsettled.
Matt Hamill has been disqualified from a major qualifying fight after officials took his swollen appearance as an indication of steroid use. The ruling does not, by itself, establish why his condition changed.
Hamill had eaten at Wok N Roll before the fight. The meal is part of the sequence of events, although the public accounts do not establish a cause.
Wong Gai has become involved in the inquiry and is arranging an exhibition fight with Hamill. Gai describes the proposed encounter as a performance. That description appears in the investigator’s own case note.
The police public-information notice distinguishes an event ruling from a medical explanation. It also asks people not to infer agreement from the absence of an audible reply.
Gai’s activity now includes a booking for the Deaf Leppards at the Fort Vale Deaf Club. A community-calendar entry carries the booking separately from the qualifying dispute.
The reason for Hamill’s condition remains unanswered in this account. The Tribune’s sports-desk follow-up examines what the ruling does and does not establish.
