Department Investigates Burglaries; Residents Asked to Preserve Evidence

Subject
Unauthorized entry

Chief Hootie B. Phish

Public Internet bulletin

The department is investigating reported unauthorized entries in which mattress labels were removed. Cash, jewelry and other valuables were reportedly left in place.

The absence of a reported financial loss does not establish that entry was authorized. Residents discovering disturbed bedding are asked to leave the affected area in the condition in which it was found.

Descriptions should distinguish a missing object from an explanation of why that object was taken. The purpose of the label removals is not established in this bulletin.

Mr. Gai has correctly identified the unusual pattern. His broader interpretation is not a departmental finding.

Scene examination must precede further handling of the affected bedding. Statements concerning activity at a scene will be recorded separately from conclusions drawn about that activity.
